Hunting

North of Superior is considered a prime moose hunt and black bear-hunting destination. Majestic moose, crowned with massive antlers browse the wilderness rivers, lake shores and logging clearings across the Northern parts of our region. The hunting season extends from mid-August through to mid-November.  Black bear are only hunted in the late summer/fall here, so your best bet is to contact an hunting outfitter soon and make your plans early. These wary and large creatures make for a challenging and exciting hunt.  There is no shortage of small game and wild birds, either and there is non-resident deer hunting in some parts of our most western boundaries.

Please Note:
Ontario residents and non residents of the province are required to have an Outdoors Card to hunt and fish in the Province of Ontario.

Moose

Moose are among the continent’s largest mammals and here in North of Superior country, we have some of the “largest of the large”!  Visit anytime from mid-September to mid-November for your chance to bag a trophy moose crowned with massive antlers.  The region is full of their favorite habitat:  swampland, river and lake shores and logging clearings.  Individual operators receive a tag allocation for non-resident hunters.

Deer

Some of the best whitetail deer hunting in the country is found in the Atikokan area of North of Superior. Throughout the continent, avid deer hunters share stories of the massive trophy bucks that have been taken from this region. Come to North of Superior and create a story of your own.

Black Bear

Black Bear are abundant in Superior Country. With an active fall hunt for these magnificent animals, a recently re-instituted spring bear hunt has been opened up to non resident hunters as well.

Small Game

There is no shortage of small game and wild birds for those hunters that prefer a less arduous form of an outing. Lodges, camps and resorts across the offer excellent shooting for many varieties of ducks, Canada geese, partridge and grouse. Thousands of kilometers of roads and trails through our forests provide ample access.
