This largest member of the char family lives in our deep cold waters. From world famous Lake Trout fishing adventures on Lake Nipigon and Lake Superior to catching them from shore in the spring and fall throughout Superior Country.
Lake Superior hosts two subspecies of Lake Trout, the deep water giants (Siscowet) which are the sought after trophy fish of Lake Superior and Lake Nipigon. The smaller, leaner and shallow water common Lake Trout are also fishable throughout the spring and fall either directly from shore or flat lining from boats. Although not as big as their cousins, the common Lake Trout are plentiful and easier to catch.
The largest fish are caught using down riggers in deep water with Lake Nipigon’s famous fishery being a prime destination. During the spring and fall Lake trout can be caught in many lakes in Superior Country without down riggers or special equipment. Simply casting or trolling lures usually does the trick.
