Naturally Superior Adventures & Rock Island Lodge

Paddle the world’s largest freshwater inland sea.  Fresh, sweet water; no tides and currents. Sea Kayak Canada’s Lake Superior Coast.

Since 1994, Naturally Superior Adventures has led paddling enthusiasts on guided sea kayak trips on Lake Superior and guided canoe trips on northern Ontario’s rivers. Their programs also include sea kayak instruction and paddling festivals.

In conjunction with Rock Island Lodge, they offer bed & breakfast accommodations on Lake Superior and host artistic workshops, corporate vacations, and weddings. Also based from the lodge are a host of sea kayak, canoe and stand-up paddleboard (SUP) day programs. They also offer vehicle shuttles, sea kayak and canoe rentals and outfitting.

Rock Island Lodge

Rock Island is a private seven-acre peninsula, located at the junction of Lake Superior and the Michipicoten River. The lodge features four rooms, each with two beds and an en-suite bath. A bright, 1,500-square foot common area has couches, a wood fireplace and inspiring Lake Superior views. The lodge has telephone and Internet services but no television. Not that you’ll miss it – after a day of outdoor adventure, watch the sunset and fall asleep to the sounds of calling loons and lapping water. Every room in the lodge is located within a stone’s throw from the water’s edge. In autumn storm season, the building all but shakes in thundering surf.

Breakfast is included with your lodge stay; most of the day trip packages include lunch, while family-style dinners are available at additional cost. They strive to accommodate special diets and allergies. Meals consist of fresh foods with minimal processing, and incorporating organic foods whenever possible.

Open from mid-May to late October.

Looking to camp? Experience “glamping” in a waterfront geodesic dome, a unique way to be immersed in nature, find artistic inspiration or to start or finish a paddling journey on Lake Superior. With a sweeping beach and warm water, the tent sites on the Michipicoten River are the perfect place to introduce your family to camping.
