Superior Outfitters Coastal Kayaking Adventures is situated in the village of Rossport on the north shore of Lake Superior.  We are nestled among the Rossport Islands, the largest archipelago on Lake Superior and the gateway to the National Marine Conservation Area. The islands provide not only protection, but are also rich in wildlife and rugged beauty, making this a favorite spot among sea kayakers.

We offer a wide range of sea kayaking tours and instructional programs suitable for every age and ability level.  Our group sizes are small, and our certified staff is dedicated to provide you with a safe rewarding and enjoyable kayaking experience.

Guided day tours provide an opportunity to explore some of the spectacular natural, geologic and historic attractions of Lake Superior’s largest island archipelago from the unique perspective of a touring kayak. No experience is necessary! All equipment is provided.  This instructional tour will provide you with the fundamental skills of coastal kayaking as well as provide you with an opportunity to explore the sheltered waters of the Rossport Islands.

For those of you who are curious to know more about sea kayaking a half-day instructional session is for you.  In this three hour lesson you will learn the fundamentals of coastal kayaking including wet exists, solo and assisted rescues and paddling technique. Package includes equipment, instructor and lesson. This program is also offered on the warmer inland waters of Whitesand Lake at Rainbow Falls Provincial Park.

In the full day course you will cover the basics of the half-day instructional program before spending the afternoon exploring the area on your own.

At Superior Outfitters our highest priority is safety and safe travel by sea kayak demands sound judgement, proper equipment, practiced skills and caution – no matter what your level of experience.

We require that all persons wishing to rent kayak equipment from us must have recently participated in a minimum of 2-3 hours of locally recognized kayak technique – safety instruction and actual capsize rescue practice.  Our introductory kayak clinic is one wise option, however we do accept recent completion of similar courses offered elsewhere.

Superior Outfitters provides vehicle shuttle service for paddlers and hikers looking to accomplish a one-way adventure. We can drop you off at your starting point and you make your way back to your vehicle or we can come and pick you up at the end of your journey.  Please feel free to ask about your different options.

Superior Outfitters Coastal Kayaking Adventures offers a range of trips for all ability levels.  From its base in the village of Rossport Superior Outfitters is the gateway to Parks Canada’s National Marine Conservation Area (NMCA), the largest fresh water marine archipelago in the world.  Stretching from the southern tip of the Sleeping Giant the NMCA extends over 150 Kms to Bottle Point and includes more than 500 islands. The shoreline features spectacular geological features, unique flora and fauna as well as many historical and cultural landmarks.

The trips are fully outfitted and prices include a qualified guide, fully equipped sea kayak, personal floatation device as well as safety equipment, and food provisions, cooking equipment and vehicle and/or boat shuttles where applicable.  Wetsuits and tents are available for rent upon request.  A complete gear list is provided when registered.

Our guides are fully qualified, and are selected based upon their leadership, technical skill and knowledge of the area.  Safety is always a priority with all our staff.
