Greenstone

Greenstone is made up of several communities and townships across an area of 3,172 sq. km. (1224 sq. mi.) making it one of the largest municipalities in Canada. Greenstone is Nature’s Home Town because of its surroundings. Visitors to Greenstone will find a natural playground with a vast multitude of clean, clear lakes, rivers and air free of big city pollution. Greenstone has the best of the best fishing in Ontario with 43 outfitters ready to serve you. Black bear, moose and small game provide great hunting opportunities as well. Hiking trails, canoe routes, wild berries, snowmobiling are some of the activities you can enjoy while visiting Greenstone.

GERALDTON – A GREENSTONE COMMUNITY
Geraldton is situated along the shores of Kenogamisis Lake at the corner of Highway 11 and 584. It is home to the only 18 hole golf course in the Superior Country region. MacLeod Provincial Park offers great camping with electrical hook up and a gorgeous hiking trail. Signature events: The Geraldton Walleye Classic and Survive the Park.

LONGLAC – A GREENSTONE COMMUNITY
Longlac situated along Long Lake off Highway 11 has been attracting avid anglers for years. The development of the water-fronts (Riverview) and (Lake Side Centre) offers first class services to boaters, swimmers and campers. The information centre will provide visitors with all the information needed when visiting Longlac or any other community in Greenstone. Signature events: Moosecalac and Summerfest.

BEARDMORE – A GREENSTONE COMMUNITY
Beardmore hails as the “Gateway to Lake Nipigon”, one of the largest freshwater lakes in the world! Lake Nipigon is renowned for its world-class fishing opportunities and spectacular scenery including black-green sand beaches and towering shoreline cliffs. Beardmore is known to have the world’s largest snowman. Tourism also plays a valuable role in supporting the local economy offering visitors a choice of rustic resorts, charter cruises, a marina at High Hill Harbour and picturesque Poplar Lodge Park both situated off Highway 11 on Highway 580. Signature event: Lake Nipigon Trout Hunt.

NAKINA – A GREENSTONE COMMUNITY
This little northern jewel is a sportsman’s mecca of wilderness hunting and fishing opportunities. Hundreds of miles of pristine lakes and forest abound, including a nature reserve, backcountry camping parks and canoeing routes. Signature event: Nakina Bass Derby.

JELLICOE – A GREENSTONE COMMUNITY
Jellicoe features a variety of renowned fishing and hunting resorts and outposts to suit all types of visitors. Located next to Blackwater Lake, less than a half hour from the services of Beardmore, Jellicoe residents enjoy clean crisp northern air, sparkling lakes and rivers, dark, starry skies and some of the most beautiful, serene surroundings Greenstone has to offer.

CARAMAT – A GREENSTONE COMMUNITY
Caramat is situated off Highway 11 on Highway 625. Caramat has the longest running fish derby in Canada, over 55 years. The derby is open to all anglers with categories for all species of fish and mystery weights for each division. For hikers and nature lovers, High Falls is a must see! Residents of Caramat enjoy the outdoors, while living enveloped in the beauty and serenity of the northern wilderness.

MACDIARMID/ORIENT BAY – A GREENSTONE COMMUNITY
Resorts and charter cruises offer nature lovers a tranquil escape beneath some of the most striking views of the Pijitawabik Palisades. Here ice and rock climbers from all over the world travel to climb the towering Palisade cliffs and experience the natural wonder that is the MacDiarmid/Orient Bay area.
