Upsala

The Township of Upsala is a small town about an hour and a half from Thunder Bay and Ignace. Upsala is an unincorporated community and geographic township in Thunder Bay District in northwestern Ontario, Canada. It was named after the city of Uppsala in Sweden.

Lac des Mille Lacs is a major body of water located in Northwestern Ontario. It is approximately 144 kilometers (90 miles) west of Thunder Bay by way of Highway 17. The lake is 59,583.8 acres, or 24,113.6 hectares in size. Lac des Mille Lacs is a regionally significant recreational area for tourism, fishing, cottaging, and camping.

Upsala is unique in that it genuinely has some of the best fishing and hunting spots in the entire world. The natural setting of the community and region makes it an ideal getaway for the outdoorsman. Whether you’re coming from Thunder Bay, the mid-west US or even from another province. Fishing

Great fishing attracts most people to Lac des Mille Lacs & Upsala. This lake is the single largest contributor to inland angling opportunities in the Thunder Bay District. It is popular with residents and non-resident anglers visiting the area to fish. Well known for its sport fishing for walleye, pike, and whitefish. Lac des Mille Lacs has some of the best fishing spots in Northern Ontario, as well as the country. We have tourists visiting from all over the world to experience the fishing here in Upsala. With most tourists coming to our region primarily from Canada and the United States.

Hunting

Upsala & Lac des Mille Lacs region attracts visitors from across the country and the world. The region is currently one of the richest sources of hunting in the area. Many locals from Thunder Bay district travel to Upsala to experience what Lac des Milles  Lacs has to offer. This region is well known for its moose, deer and small game hunting.
