Wilderness Discovery Centre
Experience the thrill of the catch on the fresh waters of Lake Shebandowan, or relax with a sunset boat ride on our fully accessible Pontoon Boat — There are many activities to do out at Wilderness Discovery that will always make for a unique and engaging camping experience.
Feel the sun and breeze on our 18-foot accessible Pontoon Boat, or ask about one of our other bass boats.
Swimming – Our certified hoyer lift allows anyone that requires assistive technology to swim freely and safely on those hot summer days.
Fishing – Drop a line and enjoy good fishing on the fresh waters of Lake Shebandowan.
Boardwalk – Take a leisurely tour along our accessible ramp system and discover the rich history of Wilderness Discovery through various landmarks.
Picnic and Playground – Take the kids for a swing on the playground and enjoy a relaxing picnic in the recreation field.
Wilderness Discovery is a fully wheelchair accessible campground situated 80 kilometers west of Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Landmarks – Take a look at some of our unique landmarks and ask about dragonfly rock, our little fox friends, and the various memoriams around the grounds.
Nature – Enjoy the wilderness and nature at Wilderness Discovery and take a walk along the shoreline.
Rook’s Corner -Gaze down upon the field of dandelions and admire the forest views at Rook’s Corner.
Main Lodge
Located in the center of the grounds closest to the Lake Point. Our Main Lodge features large hall space and commercial kitchen; perfect for hosting general events, weddings, work parties, and more.
Wolf’s Den
Located northeast of the campground, this Cabin features an open concept living room with brand new sliding door entryways and sliding glass doors leading to the sun deck where a gorgeous meadow of dandelions can be seen. This Cabin features a fully accessible L style kitchen and 3 piece bathroom with shower stall, dining room, and entertainment area.
Cougar’s Cave
Located northeast of the campground, this Cabin features an open concept living room with brand new sliding door entryways and sliding glass doors leading to the sun deck. This Cabin features a fully accessible L style kitchen and 3 piece bathroom with shower stall, dining room, and entertainment area. Overlooking the sun deck is the start of the boardwalk leading to the lake point.
Bear’s Den
Located east of the campground, this Cabin features an open concept layout with an attached living room and fully accessible L style kitchen and 3 piece bathroom with shower stall, dining room, and entertainment area. Looking out from the sun deck a view of the boardwalk leading to the lake can be seen.
Eagle’s Roost
Located southwest of the campground and next to our project monument, this Cabin features an open concept living room and fully accessible horseshoe style kitchen and 3 piece bathroom with shower stall, dining room, and entertainment area. Overlooking the sun deck a view of the lush forest can be seen as well as a peak down onto the shoreline.
Moose Manor
Located northwest of the campground and closest to the main entrance, this Cabin features an open concept living room and fully accessible horseshoe style kitchen and 3 piece bathroom with shower stall. Overlooking the sun deck is a spacious play area and a look down onto the shoreline.
