For more than 100 years, Lake Nipigon and the Nipigon River system down to Lake Superior has offered anglers one of the most remote and pristine ‘drive-to’ fishing opportunities for world-class Brook Trout, Lake Trout and Northern Pike anywhere in North America.  Its Lake Trout and Brook Trout populations are among the largest and fastest growing in Ontario and, for that reason, they are famous worldwide.  In fact, the Nipigon River was home to the World Record Brook Trout caught by Dr. J.W. Cook of Thunder Bay on July 21, 1915 (14.5 lbs / 31.5 inches long / 23 inches in girth), and it remains the oldest sport-fishing record still standing today… now more than a century later!

Lake Nipigon is about 70 miles long and nearly 50 miles wide; it is the largest lake wholly within the Province of Ontario, and the 38^th largest lake in the world.  Its single outflow – the Nipigon River – connects it to the northern-most point of Lake Superior allowing it to be called the “headwaters to the Great Lakes”.  The Nipigon River is also the largest river flowing into Lake Superior – nearly 30 miles long and 1/4 mile wide at its widest point.

Depending on the duration of your trip, you could experience 3 separate and distinctly different sections of the Nipigon River system (including Lake Nipigon).  Additionally, anglers who seek a unique opportunity to catch a rare Coaster Brook Trout (Brook Trout that live in Lake Superior) can also be accommodated.

While no one has come close to beating Dr. Cook’s world record catch, trophy Brook Trout of more than 26 inches / 8 lbs. are caught by guests every year.  Fishing success depends largely on an angler’s skills and equipment… our job is to put you in the best waters we know that hold trophy fish to provide you with the best opportunity for success – your job is just simply to make it happen!
