About Hawks Ridge Trail

Hawks Ridge Trail in Marathon is a captivating natural wonder shaped by ancient geological forces. Over 10,000 years ago, the last glacier’s movement, combined with tectonic shifts and glacial activity, sculpted this remarkable landscape along the north shore. The trail’s name pays homage to the frequent hawk sightings—these majestic birds utilize the winds off Lake Superior to gracefully soar along the ridge. Hawks Ridge offers breathtaking vistas of Lake Superior and the surrounding area. As an intermediate trail, it spans 5 km (3.1 miles) round-trip and ascends to a vertical height of 350 feet. Embark on your adventure at the end of Hemlo Avenue in Marathon, where the trail marker awaits your exploration.
