Lookouts

There are several lookouts to marvel at inside and outside the city limits. You can find the Mount Mckay Lookout near the Fort William First Nation Reserve. This view can be experienced by climbing to the top via hiking or driving, and the sight of the city down below with the deep blue of Lake Superior in the distance is truly a fantastic thing to lay your eyes upon. In Thunder Bay, for a genuinely unobscured sight of Sleeping Giant laying on its bed of Lake Superior, drive up to Hillcrest Park. Here, you can set up a beautiful picnic or have your children play on the structure, offering hours of fun. On the outskirts of Thunder Bay, going towards Nipigon, check out the Thunder Bay Lookout, where you can gaze at the alluring waters of Lake Superior and see the rocky islands standing tall overtop.

Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park is also located outside of Thunder Bay. Here, the absolutely unforgettable sight of the “Niagara of the North,” Kakabeka Falls, is to be discovered. Watch from the platform as the waters rush downwards towards Lake Superior. Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park is also home to many hiking trails that take you on adventures between the Northern pines and underneath bright green canopies. There is also a beautiful little beach where you can wade in the cooling waters of the Kaministiquia River.

Arts & Culture

Thunder Bay is also home to an incredible arts and culture scene. With shops and markets that offer art, clothing, souvenirs, and so much more, these shops are mainly located in the downtown area of Red River. As you wander the streets and check out the unique shops, you’ll see the Sleeping Giant in the distance and the many ships headed to the city’s harbour. In this area, the Thunder Bay Marina also has an art gallery that showcases the undeniable talent of all, including Anishinaabeg artists, who call the area home
