10 Superior Lighthouses

Northern Ontario’s Superior Country region is home to ten Lake Superior Ontario Lighthouses. Two of the regions most famous beacons include Battle Island Lighthouse and Porphyry Island Lighthouse. While some of these attractions can be visited up close others can only be seen from the waters below. Each light has a unique story to tell and a rich history to explore. So, whether you’re exploring for history, or seeking breathtaking views, these are must see Lake Superior attractions!

Visiting each lighthouse offers travelers a glimpse into the maritime history of the great lakes and the important role that these buildings served in guiding vessels through the northern waters of Lake Superior. Volunteer organizations  strive to keep this history alive and continually upgrade the grounds of select lighthouses to ensure memorable visits. If you’re traveling through the region by land you can find regular charters out of Thunder Bay and Silver Islet.
