About Terrace Bay

Terrace Bay, a community located on Highway 17 in Northern Ontario’s Superior Country, is full of adventure and beauty. Located on the shore of Lake Superior, the view from its downtown square is like no other. From its famous lighthouse to the beach to waterfalls, Terrace Bay offers incredible experiences to see and do and is accessible to all ages so everyone can get in on the fun!

Due to its fantastic location on Lake Superior, Terrace Bay offers many nature adventures and unforgettable sights. At Aguasabon Falls and Gorge, you can walk an all-accessible boardwalk that weaves through lush trees and emerges onto a platform that overlooks the rushing waterfall that flows down into the gorge and moves to Lake Superior in the distance. After you take in the view, there is more to be explored at Aguasabon, as there is a hiking trail that goes to and from Terrace Bay Beach.

Terrace Bay Beach

Terrace Bay Beach, located towards the lower end of town, is a massive sandy paradise where the waves of Lake Superior crash onto the shore. There are many things to do at Terrace Bay Beach, including walking the boardwalk and taking in the beauty surrounding you, having a picnic shaded by the pavilion, trying your hand at beach volleyball on their pristine court, or even taking a dip in the gorgeous blue Great Lake water (if you can brave the cold!). Terrace Bay Beach is also equipped with an all-accessible kayak launch next to their boat launch for a paddling adventure. If you’re feeling like hiking through the forest, the short but exciting Red Chair Trail is located at the far end of the boardwalk and is a fantastic location to take perfect pictures for your scrapbook.

There is no shortage of amazing locations in Terrace Bay for eating and drinking. The restaurants located throughout the town are the perfect places to sit down and enjoy a delicious hot meal while chatting with friends and family. Simcoe Plaza also has Terrace Bay’s famous lighthouse, where you can make your way up its steps to see the view of Lake Superior melting into the horizon.
