Fort Frances is located in the Rainy River District along Highway 11/71, just across the Fort Frances–International Falls International Bridge from International Falls, Minnesota. Its accessible location makes it a great entry point for visitors travelling between Canada and the United States while exploring Northwestern Ontario’s waterways and wilderness.

Rainy Lake is the heart of Fort Frances’ outdoor recreation, offering safe and scenic waters for swimming, boating, paddling and watersports. Anglers from near and far come to test their skills for bass, walleye and muskie on one of Canada’s premier freshwater lakes.

At Point Park, families and travellers can relax on sandy beaches, picnic under oak trees, play volleyball or enjoy beach‑side fun. The LaVerendrye Parkway waterfront walk stretches along the Rainy River, perfect for scenic strolls, cycling or spotting wildlife and boats sailing by.

Fort Frances’ trails offer beauty in every season. In summer and autumn, walk, hike or bike scenic routes. In winter, snowshoe, ski or explore snowmobiling trails that criss‑cross the region, giving visitors a true taste of northern landscapes.

Golfers can enjoy 18 holes at Heron Landing Golf Course, set on the edge of Rainy Lake with panoramic views and chances to spot birds and wildlife while you play.

The Fort Frances Museum & Cultural Centre showcases more than a century of local history with permanent galleries, traveling exhibits and an extensive archive reflecting the land, people, industry and culture of the Rainy River District.
