About Barton Bay Wildlife Trail

The Barton Bay Wildlife Trail is a 4-kilometer (2.4-mile) loop located in Geraldton, Ontario, within the Municipality of Greenstone. This trail offers hikers a diverse experience, traversing rehabilitated areas, the back nine of the Kenogamisis Golf Course, and the shores of Barton Bay on Kenogamisis Lake.

The trailhead is conveniently situated at the former Geraldton Interpretive Centre, providing ample parking and easy access. From there, the path meanders through various terrains, including marshlands, offering opportunities to observe local wildlife such as moose, muskrat, beavers, and a variety of bird species. A viewing platform along the shoreline allows visitors to rest and enjoy the cool breeze off the lake.

For bird enthusiasts, the trail is an excellent spot for observing raptors like the American Kestrel and Northern Harrier. The surrounding marshlands and forested areas also support a rich diversity of flora and fauna, making it a rewarding destination for nature lovers.

To reach the trailhead, travel on Highway 11, turn north onto Michael Power Boulevard (Highway 584), then take the first right onto Barrick Drive. The trailhead is located at the top of the hill, with ample parking available.
