MacLeod Provincial Park is situated approximately 8 kilometers (4.9 mi) east of Geraldton in Ontario’s Superior Country. The park’s primary hiking trail, the MacLeod Trail, is a 1-kilometer (0.6-mile) loop that typically takes about 30 minutes to complete. This easy trail winds through a forest dominated by Towering Aspen trees, allowing hikers to observe the subtle movements of their leaves in the breeze. The forest’s regeneration following a 1939 fire is evident, and a trail guide is available to explain the process of forest succession.
Beyond hiking, MacLeod Provincial Park provides opportunities for fishing, swimming, and boating on Kenogamisis Lake. The lake supports a variety of fish species, including walleye and pike, making it a popular spot for anglers. The park also offers amenities such as picnic areas, washrooms, and campsites, accommodating tents, trailers, and RVs. Approximately one-quarter of the 100 campsites have electrical hookups.
The park operates seasonally, with day-use and camping available from May 17 to September 22, 2024. Entrance fees apply, and visitors are encouraged to check the park’s official website for the most current information.
