About High Falls Trail

Explore the Pigeon River along a historic logging road that leads to High Falls, the tallest waterfall in Minnesota, plunging 37 meters (120 feet). The trail, which is moderately challenging, features steep stairs and several hilly sections, making it a rewarding hike for those prepared for some effort.

As you walk, you’ll encounter sites rich in local history, including the remains of an old logging chute and chimney, offering a glimpse into the area’s industrial past. A commemorative plaque along the way details the significance of the Pigeon River and its role in the region’s development. At the end of the trail, you’ll be treated to stunning views of High Falls and the surrounding landscape, with opportunities to spot the lookouts of Grand Portage State Park across the border in the United States.
