About The Teaching Trail

The Teaching Trail in Quetico Provincial Park offers hikers a captivating journey through diverse forest habitats. Spanning approximately 3.2 kilometers (2 mi), this trail is characterized by rough topography and steep slopes, weaving its way through a rich tapestry of plant life. Subtle variations in sunlight, soil, temperature, moisture, and topography create a symphony of natural wonders under the forest canopy. As you walk along the trail, imagine the footsteps of those who came before—French voyageurs during the fur trade and indigenous peoples. The trail meanders through a beaver meadow and traces the eastern shore of French Lake. Be cautious, as the terrain can be slippery when wet.

Quetico Provincial Park, established in 1913, spans over 4,760 square kilometers and is renowned for its pristine wilderness and exceptional canoeing and fishing opportunities. The park shares its southern border with Minnesota’s Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.

The Teaching Trail is part of a network of hiking paths within the park, offering visitors a chance to immerse themselves in its natural beauty. Other notable trails include the French Falls Trail, which leads to the cascades of the French River, and the French Portage Trail, tracing a historic route used by First Nations and European explorers.
