About Wildlife Habitat Trail

The Wildlife Habitat Trail in Sleeping Giant Provincial Park is a loop that offers an easy and enjoyable hike through the forest. It’s a great trail for birding, hiking, and running, and it’s unlikely you’ll encounter many other people while exploring. Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash. The trail is accessible via a small parking lot off Highway 587. While the trail doesn’t offer vistas, it provides a very relaxing experience in a forest setting. Carrying bear spray is recommended due to the presence of bears in the area. This trail is perfect for those who appreciate the subtle beauty of the forest and the chance to potentially spot wildlife in their natural habitat.

Sleeping Giant Provincial Park features over 100 kms (62 mi) of well-maintained trails, ranging from easy, family-friendly walks to challenging routes for experienced adventurers. Hikers can explore a variety of landscapes, including dense forests, rugged cliffs, serene lakeshores, and the iconic Sleeping Giant formation itself. Wildlife is abundant, with opportunities to spot deer, foxes, birds, and even the occasional moose. Many trails lead to panoramic viewpoints, providing breathtaking vistas of Lake Superior and the surrounding wilderness.
