Established in 1913, Quetico Provincial Park is a 450,00-hectare plus wilderness park that is a world-renowned backcountry paddling destination. With 20,000 lakes, paddlers can plan a trip that lasts a few days, or a few weeks! Main features include soaring cliffs, cascading waterfalls and dense pine and spruce forests. The remoteness of the park makes wildlife viewing a successful endeavour for nature-lovers. Quetico’s backcountry is open throughout the year. With more than 2,000 campsites, the backcountry has no services, facilities, or signage. Paddling here is a true wilderness experience!
For the less adventurous, Dawson Trail Campground can be found on French Lake. This is at the northeast corner of the park, and there are approximately 200 campsites to choose from. Note that cans and glass bottles are prohibited in the park.
The south end of Quetico meets up with the Superior National Forest in Minnesota, which allows visitors to paddle between Canada and the USA. This is the only place in Ontario one can visit a remote ranger station on the international border.
-Quetico was Ontario’s first wilderness class park.
-Quetico is an official Dark Sky Park as certified by the International Dark Sky Association.
-The park operates an artist in residence program.
