About Paddling Red Rock

The Township of Red Rock, named for the bright red cuestas that surround it, is located on the north shore of Lake Superior just south of where the mighty Nipigon River flows into Nipigon Bay. A great feature for paddlers exploring here is the accessible entry system (EZ Dock) which is located at the north end of the marina, near the end of the boardwalk, adjacent to the Red Rock Fish and Game Club building. Paddlers can explore the marina and the bay, where wildlife such as pelicans, bald eagles, peregrine falcons, beavers and otters have been observed. Paddle slightly upstream and across the Nipigon River to view the ancient Indigenous pictographs, still faintly visible on a steep rock formation along the water’s edge.

Other amenities at the Red Rock marina include ample parking, laundry facilities, flush toilets, a café featuring freshly baked goods, and the Superior Treasures Gift Shop. These facilities are all located within the Red Rock Marina Interpretive Centre, which incorporates interactive exhibits about the town’s natural environment and history.
