About

Amethyst Mine Panorama is located approximately 60 kms (37 miles) east of Thunder Bay. It is the largest deposit of amethyst in Canada. Discovered in 1955 as a result of road construction to the Forest Fire Lookout Tower (McTavish Tower), amethyst production started in 1960. The mine has been in production ever since. In 1982, the Amethyst Gift Centre was established in Thunder Bay. The best samples from Panorama are brought to the centre’s lapidary workshop and then crafted by Canadian artisans into stunning pieces including crystals, jewellery, beads, clocks and carvings.
