About Lamb Island Lighthouse

Lamb Island Lighthouse is a steel tower that stands on a small island on the north shore of Lake Superior. It was built in 1961 to replace the original lighthouse that was established in 1877. The lighthouse marks the west entrance to Nipigon Bay, a gateway to Lake Nipigon and Western Canada. It also serves as a coastal light for the vessels heading to Thunder Bay. The island has seven other buildings that are part of the lighthouse station, including two dwellings, a generator building, a pump house, a fog plant, a boathouse, and a survival building.
