About Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame

The Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1978, with a goal to preserve and honour the region’s rich sports heritage. Over 200 athletes and builders, and numerous teams, who have achieved greatness in sport have been honoured with an induction into the hall of fame. Inductees include professional and olympic athletes, such as Haley Irwin, who has won olympic gold, and world championship curler Al Hackner.  Local sport builders are also honoured, such as wrestling coach Reino Niemi and figure skating coach Paul Wirtz.

The museum and its archives also preserve and display thousands of historically signficant sports related artifacts. The hall of fame and museum is proudly supported by the City of Thunder Bay, the Province of Ontario, and its many private donors.

Admission is “pay what you can” with a suggested donation of $3.
