About Little Falls

Little Falls is a peaceful, lesser-known feature within Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park, providing a quieter experience in contrast to the park’s main waterfall. It can be reached by a 4 km (2.5-mile) roundtrip hike, which offers a moderate challenge, with portions of the path winding through dense forest and descending steeply into the gorge. The trail follows the West Gorge of the Kaministiquia River and, after some steep sections, leads hikers to the secluded Little Falls.

The path is surrounded by towering trees and the sound of rustling leaves. As visitors approach Little Falls, they encounter a gentler cascade set against a quiet, scenic backdrop, providing an ideal spot for reflection and a connection with nature. The setting is tranquil, and with fewer visitors than the main falls, Little Falls often feels like a hidden gem within the park. On the way back the trail follows the creek, offering different views of the surrounding gorge and the varied plant and animal life that make up the park’s ecosystem. Visitors can observe the rich diversity of flora and fauna and appreciate the natural beauty that defines this part of the Kaministiquia River.

This hike not only provides an opportunity to explore a quieter part of Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park but also highlights the park’s environmental diversity. Whether visitors come for solitude, scenery, or a glimpse of the lesser-seen parts of the park, the journey to Little Falls offers a unique perspective on Kakabeka’s diverse landscapes and natural attractions, making it a worthwhile addition to any visit.
