Manitou Falls, nestled on the Pic River, is a geological wonder accessible to all. Formed by glaciers, the area boasts a history of volcanic activity, though not confirmed, and glacial shifts that left behind Hudson Bay lowland rocks. In 1951, a rotational slump, not a landslide, altered the river’s course, a phenomenon also observed in the 1980s. The beach’s fine sand offers sun-bleached shells for the crafty, while the shallow waters teem with life. Once home to Camp 12, families of Marathon Paper Mills’ workers lived and thrived here, creating a vibrant community amidst the logging era’s challenges.
