Right on the side of the TransCanada Highway, you can see a goose ready to take flight. But this is not just any goose; it is the famous Wawa Goose statue standing tall and looking out over the beautiful Northern forest and into the bright blue sky. The first goose was built back in 1960 as a way to attract travellers to the charming town of Wawa. But, after three years, it needed to be replaced. This second goose lasted substantially longer, establishing itself as the legendary road stop we know it as today. Then, in 2017, after fighting the many years of seasonal weather scars, the third goose was put up.
While you admire the famous goose and its unforgettable view, there are other things to check out. The Young’s General Store, located right by the Wawa Goose, has been up and running for the last 50 years, providing locals and visitors with a unique shopping experience. Known far and wide for its quirky atmosphere, you can find anything from hunting and fishing licenses and supplies to food, clothing, souvenirs, and, of course, the pickle barrel.
Wawa also has incredible parks with play structures for little ones and a beautiful beach perfect for dipping your feet in on a hot summer day. Overall, stopping to see the Wawa Goose is more than meets the eye; you must come to see for yourself!
