When it comes to golfing the North shore of Lake Superior in Northern Ontario, there are lots for you to choose from. Each town has a course with some of the most picturesque views of the sparkling lake and the glorious mountain ranges that will make your game of golf with your friends or family one you will never forget.

Wherever you find yourself along highway 17, there will be courses of 9 and 18 holes to welcome you with open arms whether you’re a beginner or championship player. With tees of various skill levels, and a kind, open environment, you will have no problem making memories at any course! But first, we will start our Superior golfing journey in the city of Thunder Bay

Thunder Bay

The city of Thunder Bay is home to many golf courses, both municipally and publicly owned, that will offer an exciting challenge no matter your skill level. Depending on what course you go to, different ones around the city will offer you both 9-holes or 18-holes. That being said, if you go to a course that’s only 9 holes and you want to do 18, don’t fret, courses let you go around again if you would like to do 18! Not only that, but because there are so many different locations scattered all over the city, some courses will have amazing views of Superior Country’s vast nature scene.

Each course in Thunder Bay has something to offer, and you can’t miss out on any of it. Be sure to stay in the city for a few days to take in the warmth of the Northern summer and scenery by playing each course with your friends and family. Not to mention, Thunder Bay is also home to lots of golf tournaments if that is something you like to do, just be sure to check out the course websites for dates and more information!

Up the North Shore

Heading east out of Thunder Bay and up highway 17, you will find golf courses at each town located along Lake Superior. Each of them are full of small but mighty challenging courses that will offer you a fun filled time no matter where you are.

Right out of Thunder bay you will find yourself at Pass Lake, where Bayview Golf Course is. This course is a 9-hole beauty just off the highway in between Thunder Bay and Nipigon, and has an unforgettable view of Lake Superior.

As you keep heading down the highway, you will find the township of Nipigon’s golf course, the North Shore Golf Club, sitting right at the base of two of Ontario’s mountains, the large fairways will give you a relaxing game!

The next stop on the North shore is Aguasabon Golf Course in Terrace Bay. Sitting right next to the great lake, this 9-hole course has elevated tees and hilly fairways that give the perfect view of the water, with a refreshing breeze bouncing off the lake to follow you throughout your game. After your game, be sure to stop at the clubhouse for a delicious meal at the clubhouse!

Don’t Forget About Atikokan!

Going west past Thunder Bay, don’t forget about the beautifully scenic golf course located just past Atikokan’s city center. Little Falls Golf Course is 9-holes and stands at 2,500 yards from the blue tees and has a total of par 35, though don’t let that fool you. Each hole is equipped with its own pronounced slopes, narrow fairways, and a creek that runs right through its entirety giving players a challenging game. As you make your way from the fairway to the green, you will see that they are well kept and almost always putt true. And then, from the top of the 7th hole tee, you will be able to see the waterfalls that gave the course its wonderful name!

Even though this course sounds like a challenging one, I would highly recommend checking it out as they welcome players of all ages and skill levels. They do not do tee times, so drop by Little falls Golf Course for a great place to spend a morning or afternoon taking in the gorgeous Northern summer weather.

Fore! You’re On Your Way!

Each golf course along the north shore comes with its own unique experience of being in Ontario’s Superior Country. Not only do they have amazing views, and is a great way to take in the Northern summer, but they’re also a great place to get away for a bit from the business of life to laugh and play a fun game of golf with your loved ones. Your golfing memories await!
