About Neys Provincial Park Trails

Neys Provincial Park is located on the Ontario northern shore of Lake Superior. The park offers a range of hiking trails for a variety of difficulty levels. Neys features trails that traverse diverse landscapes, including dense forests, rocky outcrops, and sandy shorelines. Whether you are a casual walker or an experienced hiker, Neys has something to offer.

The Dune Trail is a short, accessible hike that highlights the park’s sand dunes and coastal ecosystem. For a more challenging trek, the Pic Island Overlook Trail rewards hikers with panoramic views of Lake Superior and Pic Island. Another challenging yet rewarding trail is the Under the Volcano Trail. This trail takes you through a mix of boreal forest and ancient geological formations, showcasing the area’s volcanic past.

Wildlife is abundant, with chances to spot moose, black bears, and a variety of bird species. The park’s history is also notable; it was once a Prisoner of War camp during World War II, and interpretive displays along the trails provide insights into this unique aspect. Hikers are encouraged to follow Leave No Trace principles to preserve the park’s natural beauty. This includes staying on marked trails, carrying out all waste, and respecting wildlife. Avoid picking plants or disturbing natural features to ensure future visitors can enjoy the environment as it is. Proper preparation, including appropriate gear and knowledge of the trail difficulty ensures a safe and enjoyable hike.
