MacLeod Provincial Park is located about 8 kilometers (4.9 miles) east of Geraldton in the Municipality of Greenstone. The park’s primary hiking trail is the MacLeod Trail. It is a 1 km (0.6 mi) loop that takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. This easy trail winds through a regenerating forest of towering aspen trees, a landscape shaped by a fire in 1939.
In addition to hiking, MacLeod Provincial Park offers a variety of activities, including fishing, swimming, and boating on Kenogamisis Lake. The lake is home to fish species such as walleye and pike, making it a popular destination for anglers. The park also features picnic areas, washrooms, and a range of camping options. Of the 100 campsites available, approximately 25% include electrical hookups, accommodating both traditional camping and RV stays.
Visitors are encouraged to practice Leave No Trace principles by staying on designated trails, carrying out all waste, and respecting the natural environment. By following these guidelines, hikers and campers help preserve the park’s beauty and ecological health for future generations. Whether you’re exploring the short but scenic MacLeod Trail or enjoying the recreational opportunities on Kenogamisis Lake, MacLeod Provincial Park provides a convenient and rewarding outdoor experience.
