Hiking in Dorion offers opportunities to experience unique landscapes in Northern Ontario and to find out why Dorion is referred to as Canyon Country. Two prominent hiking destinations in the area are the Hurkett Cove Conservation Area Trail and the Ouimet Canyon Trail.

The Hurkett Cove Conservation Area Trail takes you along the shores of Lake Superior, offering views of the water and surrounding forest. It’s a relatively easy trail suitable for all skill levels. The trail is known for birdwatching opportunities, especially during migration seasons. As you hike, it’s important to follow the “Leave No Trace” principles to preserve the pristine conservation area. This includes staying on marked trails, packing out all trash, and minimizing impact on wildlife.

The Ouimet Canyon Trail leads to a dramatic viewpoint overlooking Ouimet Canyon. This trail provides a different perspective on the region’s geological features, including deep, rugged cliffs and unique flora and fauna. The trail is well-marked crossing over a wooden bridge and leading to two viewing platforms.
